2024-02-03 Persian Restaurant in Köln: Pinnocchio Before leaving Belgium, I took a final trip to Köln, Germany. It’s about a 2.5-hour train ride from Gent (Belgium), making it perfect for a day trip. My friend and I visited Köln Cathedral and had lunch at a Persian restaurant. Left: Kashk bademjan ( کشک بادمجان ) Kashk Bademjan combines eggplant with kashk, a type of fermented whey. Often served as a dip, it is commonly topped with saffron, sautéed onions, garlic, and walnuts. Right: Mirza ghasemi ( میرزا قاسمی ) Mirza Ghasemi is a classic dish originating from Iran's Gilan province in the north (Caspian region). To order this special beer, customers are required to leave a shoe with the store manager as a deposit. This policy helps ensure the unique glassware isn’t broken or stolen. If the glass is damaged, a fine (90 euro) will be charged. This 1.2-liter beer has an alcohol content of 7.5%, which is roughly equivalent to 1.5 times the alcohol in a standard bottle of Korean soju (16% ABV). I drank the entire large beer by myself and felt a little tipsy afterward. For those who drink a lot, be cautious when heading to the restroom—the stairs are quite steep! It was nice to have this special experience while living in Belgium.
