Pub De Dulle Griet offers more than 500 different kinds of beer and is especially famous for its large 1.2-liter beer served in round-bottom flasks. To order this special beer, customers are required to leave a shoe with the store manager as a deposit. This policy helps ensure the unique glassware isn’t broken or stolen. If the glass is damaged, a fine (90 euro) will be charged. This 1.2-liter beer has an alcohol content of 7.5%, which is roughly equivalent to 1.5 times the alcohol in a standard bottle of Korean soju (16% ABV). I drank the entire large beer by myself and felt a little tipsy afterward. For those who drink a lot, be cautious when heading to the restroom—the stairs are quite steep!
It was nice to have this special experience while living in Belgium.
